Zadar to Dubrovnik - Island hopping Croatia 8ZD

Croatia

CRYSTAL-CLEAR WATER, MEDITERRANEAN CUISINE & HOSPITABLE PEOPLE – A VACATION FOR THE BOOKS

Completely relaxed, our gaze wanders over the countless islands off the coast of Croatia. Croatia counts well over a thousand, both smaller and larger islands, although only a few dozen of them are inhabited. Accompanied by numerous sailboats, we smoothly ride along on our E-Bikes. The unmistakable aromatic scent of the maquis fi lls our noses, and the Mediterranean atmosphere is heavenly – it's hardly surprising that we often feel like we're in paradise. This travel destination is balm for the soul! Our starting point for the tour is Zadar. In the coming days, we will follow the Dalmatian coast southward, occasionally taking ferries to explore some of the larger islands off the coast. The route involves constant rides up and down, and we are grateful for the support of our e-bikes. Even the occasionally strong headwind can't stop us and only brings a smile to our faces. A true highlight of the trip is Split with its palace of Diocletian which consists of more than 200 buildings. On our rest day, we will have enough time to visit this attraction from the 4th century and enjoy the bustling activities in the narrow streets, before continuing our journey steadily southward towards our destination. Dubrovnik is the fi nal stop on our trip. The city impresses with its fantastic old town and was not without reason a fi lming location and inspiration for the renowned TV series Game of Thrones. It's defi nitely recommended to extend the trip by a day or two here.

DAY 1: Arrival in Zadar
Your adventure begins with our Welcome Briefing in the hotel at 4pm where you can meet the group.
DAY 2: Zadar - Biograd na Moru
We leave the old town of Zadar early in the morning by ferry, avoiding the busy coastal roads. Within minutes, we reach our first island of the journey and will traverse it almost entirely from North to South. Small towns, villages, and holiday resorts accompany us throughout the day, allowing you to get familiar with your e-bike, before taking an evening ferry back to the mainland and heading to our last destination for the day, Biograd.
DAY 3: Biograd na Moru - Vodice
In the morning, we depart from Biograd, the "white city by the sea", and explore the Vransko Jerzero Nature Park. Riding along the largest lakes in Croatia, Lake Vrana, our route leads us to the picturesque coastal town of Vodice. Of course, we take the evening to stroll along the lovely waterfront promenade and indulge in the culinary delights of Dalmatia.
DAY 4: Vodice - Split
We start the day with one of Croatia's absolute highlights: Split. To reach it, we need to cross the Krka River whose course near Vodice transforms into a long and deep bay. We continue our journey from the regional capital, Sibenik, to Split. To avoid traffi c, we switch to a ferry from Trogir to Split. This also gives us the opportunity to explore the well-preserved old town of Trogir, known for its mix of Renaissance, Baroque, and Romanesque buildings situated on a small island.
DAY 5: Split
After three wonderful days of cycling on our e-bikes, we deserve a rest day. There is much to discover here in Split. Above all, one should not miss the complex of buildings of Diocletian's Palace – part of the UNESCO World Heritage – in the center of the old town. To this day, it consists of more than 200 buildings serving as shops, bars, cafes, hotels, and restaurants. We won't get bored here, that's for sure.
DAY 6: Split - Orebic
Ready, set, go! This morning, we have a slightly longer ferry ride ahead of us, taking us directly from Croatia's second-largest city to the island of Korcula. Upon arriving on the island of Korcula, we are greeted by a breath-taking natural landscape – it's no wonder Korcula is also known as "the green island". It's a delightful place for cycling, free from the stress and noise of the city traffi c. What a splendid tranquility!
DAY 7: Orebic - Slano
By now, we have already made our way quite far South in Croatia. Today, we will explore the Peljesac peninsula, offering a very special highlight: We drive through a small tunnel from the center of the island to the west coast. Here, we are treated to stunning views and, most importantly, a kilometers-long descent for lunch. Passing countless vineyards and the longest defensive wall in Europe in Ston, we head back to the mainland, where we spend the night in the bay of Slano.
DAY 8: Slano - Dubrovnik
It’s hard to believe, but today is already our last day of cycling, and our destination, Dubrovnik, is within reach. Once again, we benefit from our e-bikes and overcome some elevation at the beginning of the day. After that, we proceed on almost deserted roads high above the busy coastal highway, heading towards Dubrovnik. Just before reaching our destination, we turn towards the harbor. Passing by a few cruise ships, we fi nally reach our destination, the "Pearl of the Adriatic," as Dubrovnik is also called. We are full of joy! Dubrovnik amazed us with its numerous attractions. The impressive city walls and fortifi cations of Dubrovnik served as a fi lming location for the renowned TV series Game of Thrones, and the city also offers excellent opportunities for swimming and relaxation. A great tip from Edelweiss: Consider spending an extra day or two here. It's worth it.
DAY 9: Departure from Dubrovnik
Let’s enjoy our fi nal breakfast together and then set off on our journey homeward.
