Best of Bavaria 8BB

Alemania

Enjoy unspoiled nature and Bavarian culture as we cycle around crystal-clear mountain lakes, admire majestic mountain ranges and breathe in the fresh air.

Bavaria – we know what you’re thinking of: Oktoberfest, roast pork, delicious beer, leather pants, dirndls, cozy huts, deep blue lakes, and snow-capped mountains. Here, in the deep south of the republic, you can discover one of the most beautiful stretches of land in Germany. Upon arrival, we invite you on a stroll through the town center and get a taste of local cuisine at dinner in a rustic, traditional inn, before we venture out of the city on the Isar river into the Alpine countryside lying south of here.

Lake Starnberg is situated 25 kilometers southwest of Munich and is probably best known for being the site of King Ludwig II of Bavaria’s mysterious death. From here, we press forward into the Alpine foreland, which unfurls in front of us with rolling hills, luscious pastures, and breathtaking mountain ranges. The picture-postcard scenery is our constant companion. Along the way, we will visit a glass factory, where we can witness the skills of traditional glassblowers. As we journey further south, we will pass several smaller and larger lakes. They not only make for superb views, but also entice you to swim in the crystal-clear mountain water. Our last day in Garmisch takes us on one final adventure in the mountains of the Wetterstein region. The Ferchensee, Elmau Castle (the site of the G7 summit in 2015), and the Mittenwald town of violin makers are also waiting to be discovered.

Día 1: Arrival in Starnberg
Your adventure begins with our Welcome Briefing in the hotel at 4 pm where you can meet the group.
Día 2: Starnberg - Murnau
Far from the busy highways, we begin our journey on a 50-kilometer cycling path around Lake Starnberg. Despite its closeness to the lake, we’ll hardly ever be riding directly on the coastline as most of the land here is privately owned. In the afternoon, we reach the nature reserve bordering the Osterseen, a group of romantic lakes amid lush meadows and wetlands. This mystical, boggy area consists of 19 small lakes, known as the teardrops of Lake Starnberg.
Día 3: Murnau - Kempten
Today’s ride takes us through the Alpine foothills, whose rolling hills, lush green meadows, and towering mountains open up in front of us in the most spectacular way. The Celts are said to have lived here before the Romans settled here some 2,000 years ago. The scenery is incredible, just like a postcard. The day’s destination is Kempten, an old Roman city on the Iller river.
Día 4: Kempten - Oberstaufen
Say goodbye to the Bavarian Pfaffenwinkel, as this region is called due to the numerous monasteries and churches in the area. We will soon reach the Allgäu. The Allgäu ranks among the most beautiful and popular tourism destinations in Germany and the locals aren’t shy to point this out. Just like elsewhere in the world, the landscape has had a massive influence on its people: the people of Allgäu are welcoming, friendly, and proud of their home and feel a strong sense of being connected to their traditional craftsmanship and old customs.
Día 5: Oberstaufen
Two nights in your hotel in Oberstaufen give you plenty of time to explore the charming town center, discover beautiful alpine landscapes, or experience traditional cultural events. In the morning, we head out to Lake Constance to get on the ferry to Bregenz – with e-bikes, of course. In Bregenz, we continue our trip to the Pfänderbahn. The cable car takes us even higher up the local mountain, where stunning vistas of Lake Constance as well as views as far as Switzerland await.
Día 6: Oberstaufen - Füssen
Shortly after leaving Oberstaufen, we pedal along the Alpsee, which, once we have passed Immenstadt, also gives us an opportunity to take a dip in its refreshing mountain waters. Today’s route crosses the cycle path that connects Lake Constance and the Königssee, which is known as one of the most beautiful, scenic cycling roads in Germany. Pedal through the Alpine foothills, passing by numerous idyllic lakes, and many world-famous sights.
Día 7: Füssen - Garmisch-Partenkirchen
Today is all about sightseeing: discover the story of King Ludwig II of Bavaria, learn first-hand why Neuschwanstein Castle is Germany’s most-visited attraction, and travel along the ancient Via Claudia Augusta Roman road. We will experience the magnificent vistas of the Lech Falls, Füssens’ historic castle, and the charming old town. The royal palaces of Neuschwanstein and Hohenschwangau are right around the corner. We continue our journey along the Alpsee to Tyrol, Austria, then coast along the Plansee and Ammertal to Linderhof Palace, the smallest of the three palaces built by King Ludwig II of Bavaria, which you can also view from inside. In the afternoon, a visit to the baroque Ettal Abbey is planned.
Día 8: Garmisch-Partenkirchen
Garmisch-Partenkirchen, called GaPa by the locals, is situated in an impressive valley surrounded by the Wetterstein mountains. Among them is Germany’s highest mountain, the Zugspitze. The historic city center is full of cultural gems such as houses characterized by traditional “Lüftlmalerei” (a form of mural art that is native to southern Germany and Austria). A variety of opportunities to spend the day await: let your breath be taken away by the vistas of a cable car trip up to the spectacular Zugspitze or take your bike out on a relaxed ride to Elmau Castle and Mittenwald.
Día 9: Departure from Garmisch-Partenkirchen
Let’s enjoy our final breakfast together and then set off on our journey homeward.
