CYCLING WITH A TAILWIND – ALONG THE ATLANTIC TO LISBON

Experience an unforgettable cycling tour along EuroVelo 1 – the Atlantic Coastal Route – from the sunny port city of Huelva in Andalusia to the charming metropolis of Lisbon.
Our guided tour takes you through diverse landscapes over approximately 600 kilometers: past expansive beaches, through pristine nature reserves, and picturesque fishing villages.

Travel schedule

Day 1: Arrival in Huelva We meet at 4pm at the hotel for our welcome briefing.

Day 2: Huelva - Tavira You will start your tour along the Atlantic coast through the nature reserve Marismas del Odiel, where flamingos and salt marshes accompany you. You will cross into Portugal at Ayamonte by ferry. The route leads you through the eastern Algarve to the quaint town of Tavira. The river Gilão, white houses and Moorish flair invite you to relax at the end of the day.

Day 3: Tavira - Quarteira Today you will cycle through the nature park Ria Formosa – past lagunes, birds and dune landscapes. Faro’s old town is well worth a stop. Afterwards, carry on along the coast via Vilamoura to Quarteira. Enjoy the views of the sea and round off the day with fresh fish and a glass of Vinho Verde by the beach.

Day 4: Quarteira - Portimão Today, the Algarve shows off its diverse character: lively towns such as Albufeira, gorgeous bays and impressive cliffs await along your way. A couple of challenging hills reward with breathtaking views. Your destination is the charming Portimão – ideal to end the day with a walk along the seaside and a delicious meal.

Day 5: Portimão Time to catch your breath! If you want you will leave your bike behind today and discover Portimão on foot. Relax on the Praia da Rocha, take a stroll through the old town or take a boat trip to the spectacular rock caves. This day is yours – to relax, enjoy and recharge for the next stages.

Day 6: Portimão - Sagres You leave Portimão towards the west. The landscape becomes rougher, wilder – the Atlantic is always by your side. The highlight is Cape São Vicente, where you can enjoy a breathtaking view of the “end of the world”. In Sagres, once the starting point for great voyages of discovery, a very special sunset over the sea awaits you.
