Welcome to the first e-bike tour after a long lock down. We tour guides are at least as excited as our guests. We welcome 4 Americans, 3 Austrians and 2 Germans. We have brand new pedelecs from Riese und Müller. Everything is shining in the yard and waiting to be ridden. We start in Opatija, the "Grand Dame" among the seaside resorts on the Adriatic.

Tomorrow we will go up to the Ucka National Park and master the first climbs. 

Herzlich willkommen zur ersten E-Bike Tour nach einem langen lock down. Wir Tourguides freuen uns mindestens genauso wie unsere Gäste. Wir dürfen 4 Amerikaner, 3 Österreicherinnen und 2 Deutsche begrüßen. Wir haben brandneu Pedelecs der Firma Riese und Müller. Alles steht blitz blank im Hof und wartet darauf gefahren zu werden. Wir starten in Opatija, der "Grand Dame" unter den Seebädern an der Adria.

Morgen gehts hoch zum Ucka Nationalpark und wir werden die ersten Anstiege meistern. 

Day 7: Labin - Opatija 

The last day we ride along the sea back to Opatija. There are some climbs but the real altitude meters are behind us. There are beautiful views all the way to the island of Cres and the Kvarner Bay. The last kilometers are always along the sea. 

Strengthened by exercise and rest, good food and friendly people, we spend the last evening here, in the seaside resort on the Kvarner Bay, the "Grand Dame".

Den letzten Tag fahren wir am Meer entlang zurück. Es gibt einige Anstiege aber die wirklichen Höhenmeter liegen hinter uns. Es gibt herrliche Ausblicke bis zur Insel Cres und in die Kvarner Bucht. Die letzten Kilometer gehen immer am Meer entlang. 

Gestärkt durch Bewegung und Ruhe, gutes Essen und freundliche Menschen verbringen wir hier den letzten Abend, im Seebad an der Kvarner Bucht, der „Grand Dame“.

Day 6: Pula - Labin

We say goodbye to Pula and cycle to the east coast of Istria. The Barban Riviera is still an absolute insider tip. Delicious mussels are farmed here. Picturesque and lonely is our place for lunch directly at the water. The swimwear should be in the saddlebags. But all beauty has its price! It goes steeply down, but also steeply up again. Along the bay there are always remnants of old coal mines, which shaped the history of the area for a long time. Labin is our destination today. The former wealth of the town can be seen in the palaces. What a day!

Wir verabschieden uns von Pula und radeln an die Ostküste Istriens. Die Barban Riviera ist noch ein absoluter Geheimtipp. Hier werden köstliche Muscheln gezüchtet. Malerisch und einsam liegt unser Platz zum Mittagessen direkt am Wasser. Die Badesachen sollten in den Satteltaschen sein. Aber alle Schönheit hat seinen Preis! Es geht steil hinab, aber halt auch steil wieder bergauf. Entlang der Bucht gibt es immer wieder Überbleibsel von alten Kohlegruben, die lange die Geschichte der Gegend prägten. Labin ist unser heutiges Ziel. An den Palästen lässt sich der einstige Reichtum der Stadt erkennen. Was für ein Tag.....

Day 5: Rovinj - Pula

We reach Pula. The city Pula is best known for its many surviving ancient Roman buildings, the most famous of which is its 1st-century amphitheatre. This one belongs to the six largest surviving Roman arenas in the world and locally known as the Arena.

Wir erreichen Pula. Die Stadt im Süden Istriens ist für ihre vielen römischen Bauten bekannt. Vorallem das Amphitheater aus dem 1.Jhdt ist ein besonderes Highlight. Die Einheimischen nennen es schlicht "Arena". Es ist dies eines der sechs größten noch erhaltenen Römischen Amphitheater weltweit.

Day 4: Porec - Rovinj

The highlight of today is definitely the Lim canal. The Lim bay might be the most fascinating sight of the Istrian peninsula. The fjord is 5.6 miles long and almost 2,000 ft. wide. The steepest walls are up to 328 ft. high. The clear, green water is excellent for fish and mussel farming, due to its low salt content. Rovinj is our overnight stay. It was founded on a little island, that is now connected to the mainland and it is dominated by the baroque St. Euphemia’s Church. Its 60-meter tower provides a view of grey and red rooftops and chimneys, streets and squares.

Der Limski Kanal ist sicher das außergewöhnlichste geografische Merkmal der istrischen Halbinsel. Der Fjord ist 9 km lang und 600 m breit. Seine steilen Wände erreichen eine Höhe von bis zu 100 m. Das Wasser ist tief grün und durch seinen geringen Salzgehalt perfekt für die Fisch- und Muschelzucht. Rovinj, einst auf einer kleinen Insel gegründet konnte in späteren Jahren eine feste Verkehrsverbindung zum Festland herstellen.

Day 3: Buzet - Porec

In the morning we follow the course of the Mirna River for a bit and then enter the Motovun Truffle Forest. Surrounded by a defiant city wall, Motovun lies like an eagle's nest high up on a rock. Porec, built of white limestone, is our destination for the day. The Euphrasius Basilica is a World Heritage Site.

Wir folgen morgens ein Stück dem Flußlauf der Mirna und kommen dann in den Motovuner Trüffelwald. Umgeben von einer trutzigen Stadtmauer, liegt Motovun wie ein Adlernest hoch oben auf einem Fels. Porec, aus weißem Kalkstein errichtet, ist unser Tagesziel. Die Euphrasius Basilika ist Weltkulturerbe.

Day 2: Opatija - Buzet

We leave the blue coast of the Kvarner Bay and cycle west along the northern edge of the Ucka National Park. It is a constant up and down - like in real life. Exciting will be our lunch place - let's see.

Wir verlassen die blaue Küste der Kvarner Bucht und radeln nach Westen entlang des nördlichen Randes des Ucka Nationalpark. Es ist ein ständiges Auf und Ab -  wie im richtigen Leben. Spannend wird unser Essensplatz - schau mer mal.
