The Austrian lake district - Salzkammergut (8SZ260A)

The whole group had already arrived earlier and so they had time to explore the whole of Salzburg on their own account. It was a full day with lots of walking to take it all in. At 4:00pm we all came together to officially start the tour with our welcome briefing. Enjoying some cold drinks and getting introduced to the things you need to know and the things we do recommend. After that we did the handover of the bikes which stirred some excitement and contributed to the build up before tomorrows departure. When everybody was sorted, we left a little later to take a stroll through the old town on our way to tonight's dinner location. The restaurant is a true gem, tucked away in a little side street, featuring traditional wooden interior with a cosy beergarden in the back. We indulged on the heavy but yummy Austrian cuisine and sampled some local beers. With some of the guys opting for the proper big 'Bierkrüge'. What a lovely start to our hopefully unforgettable adventure through the Austrian Backcountry! ___________________________________________________________________________________________________________________ Todo o grupo já havia chegado mais cedo e, portanto, teve tempo para explorar Salzburgo por conta própria. Foi um dia cheio, com muitas caminhadas para absorver tudo. Às 16h, nos reunimos para o início oficial do passeio com o briefing de boas-vindas. Desfrutamos de bebidas geladas e ficamos sabendo de tudo o que precisávamos saber e do que recomendamos. Depois disso, fizemos a entrega das bicicletas, o que gerou bastante entusiasmo e aumentou a expectativa para a partida do dia seguinte. Quando todos estavam acomodados, saímos um pouco mais tarde para dar um passeio pela cidade velha a caminho do restaurante onde jantaríamos naquela noite. O restaurante é uma verdadeira joia, escondido em uma pequena rua lateral, com interior tradicional de madeira e um aconchegante jardim de cerveja nos fundos. Deliciamo-nos com a farta, porém saborosa, culinária austríaca e experimentamos algumas cervejas locais. Alguns dos rapazes optaram pela tradicional "Bierkrüge". Que começo adorável para nossa aventura, que esperamos ser inesquecível, pelo interior da Áustria!

Gorgeous weather, lakes, and mountains—what more could you ask for? We leave Salzburg along the Salzach River and turn onto the Mozart Cycle Path. Wallersee, Irrsee, and Mondsee are on the itinerary. Beautiful cycling tracks through green meadows and snow covered mountains in the background. Of course, we won’t skimp on the culinary delights either. The finest cakes at Moser’s, the best schnitzel at Toni’s Bauerngarten, and an ice cream in Mondsee to soak up the romance of *The Sound of Music*. ---------------------------------- Clima maravilhoso, lagos e montanhas — o que mais se pode pedir? Saímos de Salzburgo ao longo do rio Salzach e entramos na Ciclovia Mozart. Wallersee, Irrsee e Mondsee estão no roteiro. Belas ciclovias em meio a prados verdejantes e montanhas nevadas ao fundo. É claro que não vamos deixar de lado as delícias culinárias. Os melhores bolos na Moser's, o melhor schnitzel no Toni's Bauerngarten e um sorvete em Mondsee para absorver o romantismo de *A Noviça Rebelde*.

The day started overcast, which didn't help as some team members were worried about the long distance today. However, we made our way along Fuschl Lake past the well-known RedBull headquarter and continued towards St. Gilgen. Luckily, the weather was holding up and we could enjoy a lovely ride through the countryside. The first highlight of the day was the short but scenic ferry ride over Wolfgangsee, that was a tiny boat specialized on cyclists and walkers. From here it was a tiny ride to our well needed coffee stop. and in St Wolfgang the group had also a chance to visit its church with the famous Pacher-Altar. Leaving the village you could notice the surrounding countryside rising. We went past Bad Ischl and then turned West onto the Weisbacher Street which followed the valley but also had some descend ascends. On the downhill run towards Attersee we were in for a surprise as Alan and Ursula surprised us with a lovely picnic next to the crystal clear mountain stream. After all the peddling earlier, the appetite was good and some Austrian specialties were sampled. At the lunch stop we had the chance to opt for a direct shuttle to the hotel and after 55km already a third of the group was happy to take up the offer. The rest was willing to push themselves. The sun had come up and why not do the 93 kilometers! That said we first had to tackle the biggest ascent of the day on the Grossalm Strasse. But the group did not hesitate and took the climb in a stride. On top we celebrated in true Brazilian fashion and everybody can be very proud of themselves. From here it went mainly downhill and before we know it we already arrived at Gmunden and the Traunsee. The town was busy, plenty of people enjoyed a Sunday stroll at the lake side. Our group did truly deserve a little reward for all the effort today and so Ernst and Franzi invited everyone to ice cream scoops. Yummy! Now it was only a short ride to the hotel and after 15 minutes we had reached our destination. A family run hotel, nestled on the shores of the lake flooded with the afternoon sun. What a great setting to enjoy a cold beer in the attached beer garden. ________________________________________________________________________________________ O dia começou nublado, o que não ajudou, já que alguns membros da equipe estavam preocupados com a longa distância a percorrer. No entanto, seguimos ao longo do Lago Fuschl, passando pela famosa sede da Red Bull, e continuamos em direção a St. Gilgen. Felizmente, o tempo estava bom e pudemos desfrutar de um passeio agradável pela zona rural. O primeiro destaque do dia foi a curta, mas cênica travessia de balsa pelo Wolfgangsee, um pequeno barco especializado em ciclistas e caminhantes. De lá, foi um curto trajeto até nossa merecida parada para o café. Em St. Wolfgang, o grupo também teve a oportunidade de visitar a igreja com o famoso Altar Pacher. Ao sair da vila, podíamos notar a paisagem rural ao redor se elevando. Passamos por Bad Ischl e viramos para oeste na Weisbacher Street, que acompanhava o vale, mas também tinha algumas subidas e descidas. Na descida em direção a Attersee, fomos surpreendidos por um delicioso piquenique preparado por Alan e Ursula ao lado do riacho de águas cristalinas da montanha. Depois de tanto pedalar, o apetite estava ótimo e experimentamos algumas especialidades austríacas. Na parada para o almoço, tivemos a opção de pegar um transporte direto para o hotel e, depois de 55 km, um terço do grupo já estava feliz em aceitar a oferta. O restante estava disposto a se esforçar. O sol já havia nascido e por que não completar os 93 quilômetros? Dito isso, primeiro tivemos que encarar a maior subida do dia na Grossalm Strasse. Mas o grupo não hesitou e encarou a subida com tranquilidade. No topo, comemoramos em verdadeiro estilo brasileiro e todos podem se orgulhar muito de si mesmos. A partir daí, foi basicamente descida e, antes que percebêssemos, já tínhamos chegado a Gmunden e ao lago Traunsee. A cidade estava movimentada, muitas pessoas aproveitavam um passeio de domingo à beira do lago. Nosso grupo realmente merecia uma pequena recompensa por todo o esforço do dia, então Ernst e Franzi convidaram todos para sorvetes. Delicioso! Agora era só um curto trajeto até o hotel e, depois de 15 minutos, chegamos ao nosso destino. Um hotel familiar, situado às margens do lago e banhado pelo sol da tarde. Um cenário perfeito para saborear uma cerveja gelada no jardim anexo.

A cruise on the deepest (and most beautiful) lake in the region, and adventurous ride to "Chinatown" and a final in "little Tibet" - what a gorgeous day. ‐---‐---‐-------------------- Um passeio de barco no lago mais profundo (e mais bonito) da região, uma aventura até "Chinatown" e uma parada final na "Pequena Tibete" - que dia maravilhoso!

Today is a shorter riding day. We spend only the morning in the saddle, with nature taking center stage. Leaving Gosau, we cycle over the Pass Gschütt through dense forests and across lush green meadows. Before long, we reach our first stop at the Aubach Waterfall. Hidden away in the middle of the forest, this small cascade provides the perfect setting for a well-deserved break. The route becomes even more idyllic afterwards. On quiet country roads with almost no traffic, we ride through a varied landscape of traditional farms and rolling pastures. Goats and sheep accompany us along the way, and to Clarisse’s delight, we even spot a shy deer at the edge of the forest. The highlight of the ride comes at the very end: a fast and flowing descent takes us down to Bad Vigaun. Our timing could not have been better. Just after we arrive, dark clouds gather overhead and the rain begins to fall. In the afternoon, we swap our bikes for the vans and head up to the Eagle’s Nest high above Berchtesgaden. As we wind our way up the mountain road, the surrounding peaks gradually disappear into the clouds. Upon arrival, the rain creates a very special atmosphere. Wisps of fog drift through the rocky landscape, while the mountain summits remain hidden from view today. The dramatic scenery and the eventful history of this remarkable place make for a truly memorable visit. ‐------------------- Hoje o dia de pedalada é mais curto. Passamos apenas a manhã na bicicleta, com a natureza como protagonista. Saindo de Gosau, pedalamos pelo Passo Gschütt através de densas florestas e exuberantes prados verdes. Logo chegamos à nossa primeira parada na Cachoeira Aubach. Escondida no meio da floresta, essa pequena cascata oferece o cenário perfeito para uma pausa merecida. O percurso se torna ainda mais idílico depois disso. Em estradas rurais tranquilas, com quase nenhum tráfego, pedalamos por uma paisagem variada de fazendas tradicionais e pastagens onduladas. Cabras e ovelhas nos acompanham pelo caminho e, para a alegria de Clarisse, avistamos até um cervo tímido na orla da floresta. O ponto alto do passeio acontece no final: uma descida rápida e fluida nos leva até Bad Vigaun. Nosso timing não poderia ter sido melhor. Logo após chegarmos, nuvens escuras se acumulam sobre nossas cabeças e a chuva começa a cair. À tarde, trocamos as bicicletas pelas vans e seguimos para o Ninho da Águia, no alto de Berchtesgaden. Enquanto subimos a estrada sinuosa da montanha, os picos ao redor desaparecem gradualmente nas nuvens. Ao chegarmos, a chuva cria uma atmosfera muito especial. Fios de neblina flutuam pela paisagem rochosa, enquanto os cumes das montanhas permanecem ocultos à vista. A paisagem dramática e a história rica deste lugar extraordinário tornam a visita verdadeiramente memorável.

Today is our well-deserved rest day. Unfortunately, the weather has other plans for us. Rain is pouring down from morning until evening, so our trusty e-bikes remain safely parked in the hotel basement for the day. A highlight awaits us at breakfast. We're celebrating Milton's birthday. Luckily, there is plenty to do around here, and it quickly becomes clear that our group has a variety of interests. 😊 The ladies are drawn to the Designer Outlet, where they spend the day strolling, browsing, and searching for the perfect souvenir. Between stylish boutiques and international brands, more than a few bargains are discovered along the way. Meanwhile, the gentlemen head to the Stiegl Brewery. After learning about the history and art of brewing in the museum, it is time for the practical part of the visit: a beer tasting. Accompanied by hearty Austrian specialties, we sample a selection of different beers and compare our favorites. By the end of the day, the rain no longer seems quite so bad. Everyone returns with stories to tell, purchases to show off, and smiles on their faces. ------------------------------- Hoje é o nosso merecido dia de descanso. Infelizmente, o tempo tem outros planos para nós. A chuva cai torrencialmente da manhã até a noite, então nossas confiáveis ​​bicicletas elétricas permanecem estacionadas em segurança no subsolo do hotel durante todo o dia. Um destaque nos aguarda no café da manhã. Estamos comemorando o aniversário do Milton. Felizmente, há muito o que fazer por aqui, e logo fica claro que nosso grupo tem interesses variados. 😊 As mulheres são atraídas pelo Designer Outlet, onde passam o dia passeando, olhando as vitrines e procurando a lembrança perfeita. Depois de aprender sobre a história e a arte da fabricação de cerveja no museu, é hora da parte prática da visita: uma degustação de cerveja. Acompanhados por saborosas especialidades austríacas, experimentamos uma seleção de cervejas diferentes e comparamos nossas favoritas. No final do dia, a chuva já não parece tão ruim. Todos voltam com histórias para contar, compras para exibir e sorrisos no rosto.

Our final day together begins with little hope for dry weather. The forecast is far from promising, making it all the more rewarding when we reach the Salt Mines in Hallein without getting wet. There, we immerse ourselves in the fascinating history of salt mining, which began here more than 2,600 years ago. During the tour, we even cross the border into Germany underground. The long miners’ slides and the boat ride across the underground salt lake are particular highlights and will surely remain among the most memorable experiences of the week. By now, the rain has finally arrived. But it does nothing to dampen our spirits. With smiles on our faces, we continue to Hellbrunn Palace, where we enjoy a snack on historic grounds. Back in Salzburg, a feeling of nostalgia slowly sets in. Our final kilometers together take us through the city before we eventually arrive at the hotel. A week filled with stunning landscapes, fascinating stories, and unforgettable encounters is drawing to a close. In the evening, we celebrate our successful journey one last time. Over traditional Austrian specialties, good conversations, and plenty of shared memories, we look back on the wonderful days we have spent together. It has been a fantastic week in the Salzkammergut. Lá, mergulhamos na fascinante história da extração de sal, que começou aqui há mais de 2.600 anos. Durante o passeio, cruzamos até mesmo a fronteira para a Alemanha por baixo da terra. Os longos escorregadores dos mineiros e o passeio de barco pelo lago de sal subterrâneo são destaques especiais e certamente permanecerão entre as experiências mais memoráveis ​​da semana. A essa altura, a chuva finalmente chegou. Mas isso não diminuiu nosso ânimo. Com sorrisos no rosto, seguimos para o Palácio de Hellbrunn, onde desfrutamos de um lanche em seus jardins históricos. De volta a Salzburgo, uma sensação de nostalgia começa a nos invadir. Nossos quilômetros finais juntos nos levam pela cidade antes de finalmente chegarmos ao hotel. Uma semana repleta de paisagens deslumbrantes, histórias fascinantes e encontros inesquecíveis está chegando ao fim. À noite, celebramos nossa jornada bem-sucedida pela última vez. Entre especialidades tradicionais austríacas, boas conversas e muitas lembranças compartilhadas, relembramos os dias maravilhosos que passamos juntos. Foi uma semana fantástica em Salzkammergut.
