Sonntag, 25. September 2022 | Ursula Peter | Edelweiss Bicycle Tours

The first one in Edelweiss history got a Worldtourer Shirt for having done 5 E-Bike Tours.
Congratulation Tamara

Day 1: Arrival in Opatija

The Colorado girls are back again - yeahh! We are in Opatija, right on the beach of the Adriatic Sea. The bikes are ready, all arrived, even Amy and last not least her luggage and we are ready to go. So stay tuned...

Day 2: Opatija - Buzet

We leave the blue coast of the Kvarner Bay behind us and cycle west along the northern edge of the Ucka National Park. It's a constant up and down - just like real life. Small roads winding through dense forest, which later one opens up and gives place for blooming meadows. We reach Buzet which is located high above the lush green Mirna valley. The patrician houses are built very snuggly next to each other and are framed by the Cicarija mountain massif. The abundant tree stock of this area served as a foundation for the whole of Venice.

Climbing up in the Ucka national park

Porcini

We found the last charcoal maker in Istria

The Kanova Lovac

By the way the charcoal maker is his brother

It looks like department of correction - but it is the border fence to Slovenia

Buzet - on the hill

The arrival in Buzet is always tricky. We'll done girls everybody made it

Our beautiful Boutique Hotel Vela Vrata. Thank you Sarah.

Day 3: Buzet - Porec

We follow the river Mirna and reach the Motovun truffle forest. It is the only way to reach the mountain villages of the surrounding countryside. Motovun is probably one of the most romantic villages in the inner part of Istria. You should not miss to walk the city wall, enjoying the views down into the Mirna valley and to the high plateau. We are welcomed by Porec, a little town entirely built of white limestone. It is home to the Euphrasian Basilica, which is world heritage.

We climbed high over the Mirna valley. Little mountain villages, spectacular views - just awesome
This tree stands in the dog village
it looks good this T-Shirt and the girl
Livade is in the center of the truffle forest.
A good coffee and truffle chips before we climbed up to Motovun
at the city gate of Motovun
they call it lunch
Truffel smell and truffel products everywhere
Betsy and Motovun in the background
arriving in Porec they climbed the tower of the Euphrasia Basilika - a world heritage site since 1997
last not least we had to celebrate Betsys birthday
What a day!!

Day 4: Porec - Rovinj

We leave Porec and cycle a few kilometers into the hinterland with its fertile olive groves and vegetable gardens. The fishing town of Vrsar with its 2000 inhabitants and its narrow streets offers hardly any space for cars. Beautiful views to the numerous small, wooded islands.

A 35 km long bike path leads us along the Limski Fjord, which geologically is not a fjord at all. At its mouth, a viewing platform offers good views inland. The lunch stop is picturesquely situated at the foot of the fjord. The bike path along the Limski Canal is mostly gravel and leads us through dense, shady forests. Rovinj, a small town on a rocky island in the Adriatic Sea, is our destination.

Ok is the official version and was the plan. Today was the day for plan B

it started with a late briefing - and wait a minute... why has Carolyn a coffee in her hand?
in a Kanoba along the way
Loretta and Gayle
Vrsar - our coffee stop. Casanova was here
after some km on gravel we had the first glimpse to the Limsky Fjord - beautiful

lucky we - we found a guy who brought us by boat through the Fjord to Rovinj

Rovinj - even more beautiful from the sea
hard working Michael is bringing the chargers in. Here is our Boutique Hotel Villa Valdibora
The amazing staircase up to the clock tower of the Euphemia cathedral
The view from up there....
....is just breathtaking

Day 5: Rovinj - Pula

Along the coastline we travel south today. Pula (Italian Pola), the ancient heart of Istria, has its own charm. Pretty much everybody of the ancient time has been here - the Romans, the Venitians, the Byzantine, the Austrians, the Italiens - and all left their cultural monuments. The amphitheater is comparable to the Colosseum in Rome. Pula also has been built on seven hills

morning briefing
Tamara, Melissa and Gayle - last impression from the old town
despite he has to deal with 9 women, he seems to be in a good mood
the gladiators
The city Pula is best known for its many surviving ancient Roman buildings, the most famous of which is its 1st-century amphitheatre. It is the six largest surviving Roman arenas in the world and is locally known as the Arena and could host 23.000 spectators. This is one of the best preserved amphitheatres from antiquity and is still in use today during the summer film festival. During World War II, Italian fascist administration attempted to disassemble the arena and move it to the mainland Italy. The idea was quickly abandoned due to the costs involved.
And here a special picture

Day 6: Pula - Labin

Goodbye Pula!! We cycle to the east coast of Istria, the Barban Riviera, which is still an absolute insider tip. Delicious mussels are farmed here. Labin is our destination today. The former wealth of the town can be seen in the palaces. Sweet ravioli with nuts, sea bass with truffle sauce are the local specialties and of course olive oil of best quality.

the day started with an outstanding breakfast
Auf gehts! Geh mer!
you can hear them from far away
in Barban we had suprisingly the best lunch on tour. Homemade noodles with truffles, seafood, chicken and cow soup (haha)
after 3.260 ft and 47 miles we ended up in our Boutique Hotel in Labin. The ladies went directly into the charming city of Labin - maybe to get a drink
The Roman historian Titus Livius called the former inhabitants of Labin pirates. The fact is that the location of the mountain town attracted settlers from all parts of the world. The gate Porta Sanifor (St. Florus) was built in 1589, and remains the main entrance to the city, decorated with the Venetian Lion

Day 7: Labin - Opatija

Pouring rain and storm. We hopped on the shuttle and got dry and safe to Opatija.

Beautiful Hotel Peteani
Stormy, rainy just a weather for the Spa
